READING ENRICHMENT FOR ADULT DEVELOPMENT (READ)

The READ project is designed to specifically address the basic adult literacy for English Grammar, Reading Literacy and Reading Comprehension, and Writing Deficiencies of VI community residents. The three major outcomes are 1) Advance literacy for parents of school-age children who currently do not have the academic capacity level to assist their children, 2) Prepare students to re-entry school or prepare for the GED, and 3) Prepare students for secondary education transition.

The four basic goals of READ are:

  • Increase students’ understanding of language arts
  • Increase students writing skills
  • Increase students verbal communication skills
  • Increase students reading literacy skills

THE SEWING CLUB

The Sewing Club is a project that incorporates not only family literacy aspects of the READ program, but also is geared towards teaching participants about team building, financial literacy, and possible prospects of entreprenuership. The participants learn about designing, basic manufacturing using scrape materials. Mathematical disciplines such as measurements, dimensions, patterns, designs, time management as well as others are infused in the activities and the projects they construct.

But out of limitiation comes creativity
