KEY STAFF MEMBERS, CONSULTANTS/PROFESSONAL SERVICE PROVIDERS AND VOLUNTEERS - AN OVERVIEW

Through the board directives, the staff has carries out its mission by supporting many faith and community-based nonprofits and organizations ranging from social service areas ranging in domestic violence/sexual assault to transitional housing for the homeless. BVF has also partnered with federal agencies to provide technical assistance and capacity building for nonprofits. BVF staff and profesisonal consultants received continual training enabling to provide technical assistance trainings in grant writing, board basics, fund and grant administration, SWOT analysis, nonprofits and ethics, and accountability standards training as part of its revenue-generating activities.

Yvonne D. Petersen, Program Director/Trainer

BVF was one of the original founders of Beyond Visions Foundation (1997) and became its first executive director in 2001. Yvonne brings over 20 years experience in nonprofit management and oversees its office on both islands. She served as the Operations Manager for MGT, Inc, a association management company that provided programmatic, financial management, marketing and public relations to the major Virgin Islands associations. Yvonne has received executive training from organizations as the US Chamber of Commerce sponsored, American Association of Association Executive's, The National Wildlife Federation and the CDC-sponsored Proceed, Inc. Yvonne is a certified consultant for The Standards for Excellence Institute, Baltimore, MD and has been a presenter at the American Association of Grant Writers for three years.

 

Yvonne has been a grassroots leader and was the University of the Virgin Islands, President of Commuting students. She help raise funds and organized cultural Caribbean trips to other Caribbean Islands. Under her leadership, the UVI students sponsored the play, "For Better of for Worse" bringing and exposing the issue of South Africa's apartheid to the V.I. An outcome of this initiate is St. Thomas' Mandela Circle in honor of Nelson Mandela.

 

 

Stephanie Luis, Financial/Grants Manager

Ms. Luis was born and raised on the island of St. Croix. She received her Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Floriday MEmorial University, Miami, Florida. She has a vast experience in managing federal grants and cooperative agreements and has performed duties in positions such as Junior Accoutant, Assistant Comptroller to Comproller for nonprofits and governemtnal agencies.


 

Nicholas Mena, Development Director

In 2005, Mr. Mena joined BVF as a summer camp counselor and moved up in BVF as a youth program coordinator, then lead program coordinator. Currently Mr. Mena is BVF's development director and provides program evaluations for youth programs. 

 

With over ten years of experience in video production and photography, Mr. Mena led in the development of BVFs Youth Film Project Series with program components in dramatic video production, documentary production, and digital photography with a recent underwater photography and video instructional segment in the Nature Explorers’ Club: Marine Exploration and Education Program. Mr. Mena is also available for training workshops in utilizing photography for program documentation and reporting.

 

Maria Morales, Manager/Community Liaison - Family Resource Center
Ms. Morales has been working with BVF for over two years and provides child care services, administrative duties and predominately oversees it Family Resource Center in Bethlehem Village and Profits Hills (aka Harvey), two side-by-side HUD assisted public housing communities located on St. Croix, Virgin Islands (US). Maria plays a vital role at BVF as the liaison with the residents of this 200-family unit low-income public housing community. She also provides community outreach services and acts as an interpreter with Spanish speaking residents.
